Dear ICMA Community,
On behalf of the ICMA board, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the ICMC 2020 organizing committee, we would like to inform the computer music community that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 ICMC will not take place this year as planned and has been rescheduled to July 2021.
All papers, music, installations, panels, and workshops submitted and accepted as part of the “2020 ICMC” call will be given the opportunity to be presented physically in Santiago next year, at the “2021 ICMC.” Due to the disruptions from the pandemic, the reviewing process has also suffered some unforeseen delays. We expect to notify results of the “2020 call” to all authors and artists by mid May 2020 and all accepted works will also be posted on the conference website.
We acknowledge and appreciate the fact that authors who have chosen to submit their research papers to the ICMC for eventual publication, have done so by forfeiting submission to other conferences and journals. After careful considerations, we have decided that all accepted papers will be afforded the option of being published this year as originally planned. Authors of accepted papers will thus be given the opportunity of having their works (1) published online on the conference website this year, (2) included in proceedings in 2021, and (3) programmed for presentation at the Santiago ICMC next year.
For accepted musical and installation works, we are developing a program to highlight excerpts of your piece on our website and appropriate social media platforms. Although the program is not yet fully developed, we plan on providing artist opportunities to showcase work excerpts through audio, video, and other mediums augmented with interviews and additional remote events until Spring 2021.
With regards to the 2021 conference, there will be an additional “2021 call for works” in the fall of this year to afford additional opportunities for composers and authors to participate in Santiago ICMC.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the ICMC 2020 organizers. We are looking forward to seeing you remotely in 2020, and in person at ICMC 2021 in Santiago, Chile.
On behalf of the ICMC 2020 organizing committee and the ICMA Board,
Rodrigo F. Cádiz, ICMC 2020/2021 Chair
